The Cuban Heritage Collection is excited to relaunch our blog with the announcement that as of June 2023, Amanda T. Moreno, MSLIS/MA, is serving as Esperanza Bravo de Varona Chair and Director of the Cuban Heritage Collection (CHC) at the University of Miami Libraries. She will lead our work collecting, preserving, and providing access to materials that document the global Cuban experience, and embark on new collaborations with Cuban Studies colleagues to deepen CHC’s integration in the academic life of the university. CHC is activating the Collection’s holdings in service of interdisciplinary inquiry and the production of new knowledge in Cuban, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies.

The legacy of CHC’s founding women and the contributions of the subsequent generation of women who led the Collection, has left a lasting impact on our community that is felt every day at the Cuban Heritage Collection. As the Esperanza Bravo de Varona Chair, Amanda hopes to continue Esperanza’s tireless advocacy to preserve the history of the Cuban diaspora community through direct engagement with our patrons and supporters. Through expanded community and academic programming, deeper outreach to students and faculty, and collection development that is responsive to patrons’ needs, Amanda will usher CHC into the next phase of its trajectory as the leading archive and library on Cuba and its diaspora outside of the island.

A heartfelt thanks to our team and our donors, especially The Goizueta Foundation and the AMIGOS of the Cuban Heritage Collection, for their commitment to the preservation of our heritage.
